whats up people !!! In this video i show you how i prepped all my chrome moldings and bumpers on my impala to get it ready for paint. This is my first attempt at painting chrome, so after tons of research i came up with a plan. My plan is 1. Clean all chrome with a surface cleaner 2. Sand all chrome with 80 grit, i used few different tools for this, DA sander, electric palm sander and an angle grinder with a 80 grit flap disk. 3. clean with surface claner 4. spray 2-3 coats of a etch primer 5. wet sand with 320-400 grit. 6. clean surface 7. spray 2-3 coats of 2k high build primer 8. wet sand with 400 grit 9. clean surface 10. ready for paint ! now these are the steps i took to prep all my chrome bumpers and moldings, others have used epoxy primer with good results but i already had the etch primer so thats what i decided to use. the etch primer seems to be holding up well after the sanding so the 2k primer and paint shouldn't be a problem biggest problem is the adhesion of the first primer and the adhesion seem good, i guess only time with tell on the durability of the method i have chosen. Let me know what you guy think in the comments below about me painting the chrome. good? bad?
